Background

Laverton in the Eastern Goldfields is the first and last stop for people leaving and entering Western Australia via the Great Central Road through Warburton and Alice Springs. As a former mining town, Laverton is in the process of repositioning itself as a tourism “Gateway” town. They want to encourage people to stop rather than just driving through. As part of this, they’re revitalising their town centre and general streetscape.

Solution

The Shire commissioned Wayfound to design and build new entry statements on the major and minor entry points to the town. The two main entry statements stand over 4m high and are made of laser cut oxidised steel. The laser cut silhouettes represent the main facets of life in the shire – being indigenous, flora & fauna, mining and pastoral.

Wayfound is working closely with our signage partner for this project, Momo Visual. We met with the Councilors and local contractors to ensure there is plenty of local input into the design and construction.
